Three individuals suspected of impersonating police officers have been arrested and remanded into police custody in Asawase following the district assembly and unit committee elections held on Tuesday, 19 December 2023.
The suspects have been identified as Zakari Yakubu 37-year-old , Godsway Fiakodzo 24-year-old , and Ibrahim Zack 26-year-old .
The prosecution alleges that the trio were found patrolling the Sawaba New Site polling stations A and B, posing as police officers monitoring the electoral process.
The police disclosed that the accused persons were dressed in black outfits and equipped with body jackets, pepper sprays, jack knives, and five pairs of handcuffs.
Acting on suspicions of impersonation, law enforcement swiftly apprehended the individuals, who were also wearing bulletproof vests. Additionally, two motorcycles owned by the accused were impounded.
The investigator, Inspector Frank Osae, and his superiors ensured a prompt court appearance for the suspects.
Facing charges of “falsely pretending to be public officers,” the trio appeared before the Prempeh Assembly Hall District Court and have been remanded into police custody.
