Member of Parliament for Atewa who doubles as Deputy Finance Minister, Abena Osei-Asare has said the feedback she gets on the ground regarding the proposed electronic transactions tax shows it has gained acceptance by the Public.
The controversial tax popularly known as e-levy is still under consideration in parliament with the minority side of the house vowing to resist its passage while the Majority he’ll bet on passing it.
Although the tax is considered highly unpopular, the Deputy Minister says her own checks indicate the tax has gained public acceptance but now only faced with questions of accountability.
“For me, what I hear Ghanaians say about the e-levy is that, yes we want to embrace it, we want it, it is good but we want to see more accountability in that field” she said.
She was speaking to the media on the sideline of the opening ceremony of the GRA 2022 Management Retreat at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho.
Explaining the accountability more, she added:
“That the monies that we raise… show us how much came in and then also tell us what you used the revenue that came in for. So it is almost about transparency and accountability”.
The e-levy is expected to be laid before parliament in the coming days.
