Member of Parliament (MP) for Ajumako Enyan Esiam Constituency ad Ranking Member on Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has hinted that plans are underway by the government to increase utility tariffs.
“Are you aware the government is going to increase electricity tariffs? They will increase it between 30% and 40%. And also increase water between 20 to 30%”. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson told TV XYZ during a studio discussion on the show the Gumbe Show.
According to him, the government will not lay its decision to increase utility tariff on the floor of parliament for a debate hence there is no way the interest of the public is going to be protected.
“Government is not going to lay debate of the said increment in Parliament it is only the president who has the power to decide whether it will be implemented or not. The powers do not lie in the hands of the parliament”, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said.
He chided President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo’s government saying they are troubling the people of Ghana in hard times like this with too many levies.
Meanwhile, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has served notice that it will embark on a nationwide meter audit to curb the rampant power theft from its customers from August 1, 2022.
