  • Post category:Ashanti-news

The Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Asante Kingdom has joined the British royal family in mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

This was contained in a letter signed by the Chief of Staff of the Asantehene, Mr Kofi Badu, addressed to the British High Commissioner, H.E. Harriet Thompson.

“I am directed to convey the deepest condolence of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, and the entire Asante Kingdom on the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch and the cherished head of the Commonwealth”.

Eulogising her, it added that her reign was with matchless dignity, unfailing grace, integrity and fortitude.

The Palace reckons that it was during her reign that “the scars of past history were finally overlaid with a new relationship based on mutual respect and friendship”.

It also recalled the relationship between the kingdom of Asante and the United Kingdom through time immemorial and described it as “values of true friendship”.

“Her Majesty has graciously received three kings of Asante and visited Kumasi during her reign, with other members of the Royal family also visiting to underscore the values of true friendship”.

The palace noted that it takes solace in the knowledge that her leadership will lighten up the path to a desirable future.
