The Leadership of a section of majority of members of Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party have called on President Akufo-Addo to sack Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and his protégé Charles Adu-Boahen.
In a press conference covered by Ashantibiz.com, Andy Appiah-Kubi, MP for Asante Akyem North, who is leader of the group of aggrieved majority MPs are convinced removing the two will help restore economic order.
“We are members of the majority caucus of the Parliament of Ghana. My name is Andy Appiah Kubi. I am here as spokesperson of the majority group without more. We have had occasions to defend allegations of conflict of interest, lack of confidence, trust against leadership of our Finance Ministry.” The group said through the Asante Akyem North Lawmaker.
The Majority group said they have tried to pass on their concerns about the duo’s running of the economy which affects the party and their constituents to avail.
“The recent development within our economy are of greater concern to majority of the members of our caucus and our constituents. We have made our grave concern to the President through the Parliamentary leadership and leadership of the party without any response.”
The group said Minister of Finance Ofori-Atta and Minister of State at the Ministry, Charles Adu-Boahen should be sacked by President Akufo-Addo.
“We are by this medium communicating our strong desire that the President changes the Finance Minister and the Minister of state at the finance ministry without further delay in order to restore hope to the Finance sector and reverse the downward trend in the growth of our economy. The summary of our concerns is that Kenneth Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahen be removed from office.” Hon. Andy Appiah-Kubi said.
Ken Ofori-Atta has come under severe pressure to resign while President Akufo-Addo has also been urged to sacked him if he won’t resign.
In the wake of the resignation of Kwasi Kwarteng, Ofori-Atta’s UK counterpart, many Ghanaians asked the Ghanaian Minister to follow suit.
Now the fire is coming from within his own party in Parliament. This means should he present a budget for approval, some of his members may join the opposition to reject it.
