What would have been described as unlawful and a no go area for trading some years ago is now a huge market center even though it is just happening at the nose of a Police Station.
Commercial activities at the Suame Roundabout see no dangers associated with by the Kumasi City Authorities as market women are allowed to display vegetables on the walkway everyday for sale. What makes it alarming is the fact that heavy duty trucks ply on that sloppy stretch every minute. One can imagine if a truck or any vehicle lost control or had a brake failure.
No one is kicking against trading but the blatant overlooking the dangers associated with that kind of businesses on that particular stretch and the fact that it is happening right at the nose of the Suame Police is what makes it alarming. Are the city authorities waiting for the unfortunate incident to happened before they show leadership?
What is the urban roads doing? Is anyone suggesting that; that activities have not come to their attention? Is there a political hand motivating the women to their risky and unlawful business activities at the roundabout?
