One of the leading Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the country, Prempeh College has named a House after Energy Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh.
The House hitherto called House 11 is now called “Matthew Opoku Prempeh House” following a decision by the Governing Council of the school
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh reiterated his firm belief in making an impact in the society he finds himself.
He used the opportunity to advise the current cohort of students to place so much premium on their academic work as that is the key to realizing their dreams and even proceeding to become better than him and other dignitaries who are old students of Prempeh College.
On the day, former President of the Republic, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, also a Senior, had an auditorium of the school named after him, “John Agyekum Kufuor Auditorium”.
A former Headmaster of the School, Mr Arthur Clarke also had a house named after him, “Arthur Clarke House”
Read His Post After the Event
It was a humbling moment, as the authorities of my alma mater, Prempeh College named after me, a house of the school today. Hitherto called House Eleven (11), it is now called “Matthew Opoku Prempeh House”. Incidentally, I shared the honour on the same day, with my paternal grand uncle and mentor, former President of the Republic, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, also a Senior, who had an auditorium of the school named after him, “John Agyekum Kufuor Auditorium”. A former Headmaster of the School, Mr Arthur Clarke also had a house named after him, “Arthur Clarke House”
Whilst accepting this lifetime honour in acknowledgement of my modest contribution towards transforming the face of this college, I used the opportunity in a brief remark to reiterate my firm belief in making an impact in the society I find myself. After all that is the essence of leadership; to be able to affect lives positively.
I also advised the current cohort of students to place so much premium on their academic work as that is the key to realizing their dreams and even proceeding to become better than some of us in the near future.
For me, everything I have done and continue to do for Prempeh College is also in honour of my grandfather, Otumfuo Nana Sir Osei Tutu Agyeman Prempeh II whose true intention for establishing the college was to promote education not only in the Asante Kingdom but the entire country. I cannot depart from this sacred duty.
I am eternally grateful to Prempeh College for this honour done me, accentuating the true meaning of the words of the hymnist in Methodist Hymn Book (MHB) number 896 “Now Praise We Great and Famous Men”.
I also warmly congratulate, President Kufuor and Mr. Arthur Clarke, on the recognition accorded them.
