Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party, has recently proposed a major change to the country’s national service curriculum. He has suggested that if he is ever elected President of Ghana, all national service personnel must undergo a mandatory six-month military training course.
The purpose of this proposed training is to teach national service personnel important values such as discipline, teamwork, self-confidence, responsibility, and patriotism.
According to Agyapong, these values are necessary for national service personnel to work for the betterment of the country.
Agyapong believes that with the help of the military training, the national service personnel can become more efficient, thereby leading to greater economic and social progress in the country. The Member of Parliament also emphasized that such training will help the service personnel to become more alert and prepared in the event of a military attack or a natural disaster.
Agyapong’s proposal has attracted much attention and support from members of the public, with many of them believing that the training could be beneficial not only to the country but also to the individuals who take part in the program. The proposal is also seen as an attempt to address the lack of adequate manpower in the military, which is a major problem in Ghana.
The proposal is still in the early stages of development and is expected to attract debate before any official decision is made.
Nonetheless, it is clear that Kennedy Agyapong’s suggestion has captured the attention of the people of Ghana and could potentially be a major step forward in terms of national service training and security.
