The popular dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has rendered an unqualified apology to a road contractor he allegedly assaulted at Adjiringano
The popular dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, known in showbiz as Shatta Wale, has rendered an unqualified apology to a road contractor and his employees working on a stretch of road at Adjirigano in Accra following an alleged assault on them.
Shatta Wale also denied reports that he has given the said contractor GHC4 million to extend the road construction project to his residence.
The musician has been accused of sending a number of young men to beat up the contractors‘’ workers for refusing to extend construction work to the road in front of his office, which is untarred.
In a clip recorded at the office of the said contractor after Shatta Wale visited him to apologise in person, the popular artiste said he regrets all that has unfolded.
“I believe that there is some news circulating around between me and some contractors. Like I am saying, the man involved is my friend. He is someone one I always want to meet but it is unfortunate that things had to happen this way.
“I want to say sorry to Kennedy and I believe that he will find a place in his heart to forgive me,” Nii Armah Mensah (Shatta Wale) said.
“All the bloggers who are saying I have given some contractors GHC4 million. I believe all of you guys should stop circulating this false news. I have not given nobody GHC4 million,” the icon of the Shatta Movement said.
After the incident, Shatta Wale claimed, speaking in an interview on an Accra-based radio station, that he did not attack any contractor or any contractor’s workers but merely sought to complain about the inconvenience the ongoing road construction was causing him.
“On Friday, I went to my office and I realised that there was some construction work on the junction leading to my office. So I asked them who their boss was, and I inquired from him why they didn’t inform us about the roadblock despite the years of uncompleted roadworks.
The following Monday, I was going to my office again and I realised that this time around, they had blocked the main road to the office,” Shatta Wale explained in the interview.
“I got out from my car and asked who was in charge because they were putting bitumen on the already tarred road, but some workers said I should not be given attention. But I insisted that I am a citizen and I need to see who was in charge. So I asked them to stop work, so that I see the contractor,” the musician expanded.
In other media reports, Shatta Wale is said to have insisted that the project, which is located along the American House-Potbelly stretch, be included in the project design, but became enraged when he was told that his demands could not be met.
The reports said that Shatta Wale then stormed the construction site on Monday, where he allegedly assaulted the project engineer and some other workers, a claim he has denied but has subsequently apologised for.
