IGP Dampare faces accusations of incompetence, malice, and fake leadership

Allegations of Abuse of Power and Disregard for the Police Service

In a shocking turn of events, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare is facing severe criticism and allegations of incompetence, malice, and fake leadership. These accusations, which have been circulating on social media, paint a damning picture of Dampare’s tenure as the head of the Ghana Police Service.

The allegations against IGP Dampare are far-reaching and paint a picture of a leader who prioritizes self-promotion over the welfare of his officers and the effective functioning of the police force. Critics argue that Dampare’s actions and behavior demonstrate a double standard and a lack of integrity. They accuse him of treating police personnel with disdain and subjecting them to monstrous treatment, while portraying himself as an angel to the Ghanaian public and the world.

One of the main criticisms leveled against IGP Dampare is his alleged use of social media antics to advance his own popularity and deceive the public. It is claimed that Dampare has used social media to create a false image of himself as the “best” IGP ever appointed, while silencing any form of criticism. Those who dare to speak out against him are condemned and labeled as enemies. This has created an atmosphere of fear and censorship within the Police Service, where officers are discouraged from reporting serious crimes and are forced to adhere to a culture of silence.

Critics also point out the irony of Dampare warning police personnel against unauthorized use of police uniforms on social media, while he himself is known for using the uniform for personal gain and attention. They highlight instances where Dampare has been photographed cracking cocoa pods, frying bofrot, and seeking unnecessary attention, all while his photographer and bloggers capture and publish these moments to earn praise. This, they argue, shows a lack of leadership and a focus on personal popularity rather than the welfare of the Police Service.

Another major concern raised against IGP Dampare is his alleged despotic and vindictive leadership style. It is claimed that Dampare has been using targeted and vindictive transfers against police officers who are perceived as not being loyal to him. Transfers are allegedly being made without the knowledge or input of his management members, and officers associated with individuals he dislikes are particularly targeted. This has created a climate of fear and uncertainty within the Police Service, as officers are unsure of their future and are afraid to speak out against unjust treatment.

Critics argue that Dampare has shown a disregard for established Constitutional Instruments, policies, standard operating procedures, rules, and regulations. They claim that Dampare is defining his own policing philosophy, where loyalty to him is rewarded with favorable appointments and promotions. This, they argue, undermines the principles of command and control within the Police Service and leads to distortions in command positions. It is alleged that juniors are now ruling seniors within the service and creating tension and uneasiness among officers.

The issue of censorship and a culture of silence within the Police Service has also been raised as a concern. Officers are reportedly discouraged from reporting serious crimes such as robbery, and even when they are allowed to do so, their reports must go through Dampare for possible manipulation before being shared with the media. Critics argue that this censorship and control of information is why media coverage of Dampare and the Police Service is overwhelmingly positive and lacks critical analysis. They question why the media remains silent on the issues and ills within the Police Service and accuse Dampare of using his influence to silence any negative reporting through the threat of financial inducements or other means.

Additionally, critics allege that Dampare has been playing politics by aligning himself with both major political parties and assuring each of them of victory in the upcoming December 2024 elections. They urge the appointing authority to investigate these claims and not trust Dampare’s promises. They argue that he cannot be trusted and may have ulterior motives behind his actions.

Concerns have been raised about the lack of transparency in promotions and transfers within the Police Service. It is alleged that Dampare alone determines promotions and transfers, and those who are not favored by him may be denied these opportunities. Critics describe Dampare as callous, dangerous, insensitive, and overly vindictive in his decision making. They argue that his actions demonstrate a disregard for the welfare and well-being of police personnel.

Critics question the whereabouts of the final report from the Parliamentary probe into the Atta Akyea committee. It is claimed that Dampare is doing everything in his power to prevent the release of this report, suggesting that the findings may be damning and expose Dampare.
