Dr. Rosemond Aboagye, a senior paediatric radiologist at Ridge Hospital and the CEO of Rand Medical Imaging and Health Systems, has captivated students at Ngleshie Amanfro SHS in Kasoa with her awe-inspiring life story. Dr. Aboagye, in an effort to motivate and inspire these young minds, shared her personal journey of growing up in the slums of Korle Gonno in Accra.
Recounting the challenges she faced, Dr. Aboagye emphasized that her experiences were instrumental in shaping her decision to address students in second cycle institutions. Her aim was to instill in them the importance of taking their studies seriously and not allowing their current circumstances to limit their potential. With unwavering determination, she urged them to dream big and work hard, reminding them that success is attainable regardless of their starting point.
Dr. Aboagye went on to share a particularly poignant moment from her own education. During her senior secondary school days at Ghana National College, she found herself unable to pay her school fees and was subsequently sacked. In a remarkable display of resilience, she resorted to surviving on seed yams intended for planting at her father’s place in Konongo. This experience served as a powerful reminder to the students that perseverance and resourcefulness can overcome even the most challenging obstacles.
Undeterred by her circumstances, Dr. Aboagye recounted another trying period during her university days. She vividly described how she would wander around campus, searching for leftover soap from her peers, using it to either bathe or wash her clothes. Despite these hardships, she refused to let them derail her focus. Even when her immediate relatives discouraged her and her own father attempted to dissuade her from continuing her education, citing the difficulties of life, she remained steadfast. Instead, she encouraged herself and pushed forward, studying diligently to achieve her dreams.
