  • Post category:Inspiring

In a powerful testament to the human spirit and the enduring power of perseverance, Dr. Rosemond Aboagye, a Paediatric Radiologist and Executive Director of Rand Medical Imaging and Health Systems, shared her extraordinary life journey with students at Fettehman Senior High School on July 3rd. Her story, one of resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to her dreams, left a lasting impact on the students, inspiring them to believe that their background need not dictate their destiny.

Born and raised in the impoverished Korle Gonno slums, Dr. Aboagye, the eldest of five siblings, faced daunting challenges from a young age. Her family’s financial struggles meant she often had to rely on friends for basic necessities like food, soap, and even books. However, she never allowed these hardships to dim her ambition of becoming a medical doctor.

‘I started selling kenkey at the age of seven,’ she recounted, her voice resonating with both humility and strength. ‘There was a time I had to travel all the way to Konongo, my father’s place, just to get my school fees after being expelled for non-payment. I even had to survive on seed yams meant for planting for five days.’

These are not the experiences one would expect from the only Paediatric Radiologist in Ghana, a position she holds with immense pride and expertise. Dr. Aboagye’s unwavering belief in her dreams led her to excel, eventually graduating from Ghana National College and pursuing her medical degree. She then specialized in Paediatric Radiology, a field she has dedicated her career to, becoming a beacon of hope for countless children.

In 2022, she played a pivotal role in a historic medical feat – the separation of conjoined twins at the Ridge Hospital, a first for the country. This accomplishment, alongside numerous awards, stands as a testament to Dr. Aboagye’s skill and dedication.

But her most significant contribution lies in her unwavering commitment to inspiring others. Dr. Aboagye has made it her mission to visit schools, to share her story and empower students to believe in their own potential. She has already inspired students at Accra Academy SHS, Ngleshie Amanfro SHS, Christian Methodist SHS, Senya SHS, Odupong SHS, and Potsin T.I. Amass SHS, leaving behind a legacy of hope and determination.

‘Dr. Aboagye’s story is a powerful reminder that dreams can be realized regardless of one’s background,’ stated a teacher at Fettehman SHS. ‘Her message of perseverance and resilience resonates deeply with our students and provides them with the motivation to strive for their goals.’

Her journey serves as a shining example of the human potential for overcoming adversity and achieving greatness. Her inspiring story is not just about a successful medical professional but about the power of unwavering belief, resilience, and a commitment to empowering others. Her legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire generations of young Ghanaians to dream big and chase their own aspirations, no matter their circumstances.
