In a powerful address delivered late Monday evening, President-elect John Dramani Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to a united Ghana following his victory in the December 7 presidential election. With 56.55 percent of the valid votes cast, Mahama’s win marks a significant moment in the nation’s democratic journey, and he urged citizens to view this triumph not as an individual success, but as a shared accomplishment for all Ghanaians.

“Every victory is a victory for all of the people,” Mahama stated emphatically, underscoring the collective spirit of his campaign. He acknowledged the heavy mantle of leadership that now rests upon his shoulders, stating, “Let us be brief in our celebration, for the weight of office will be an onerous one. Expectations of Ghanaians are very high, and we cannot afford to fail them.”

The victory speech came just hours after the Electoral Commission announced Mahama’s success, and he extended a gracious acknowledgment to outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who called to congratulate him on his electoral success.

Alongside Mahama, Vice President-elect Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang echoed the call for unity, stating, “As we journey together, we need to realize that we have to move forward also together.” She emphasized that the victory belongs to all, particularly highlighting the empowerment of women and youth: “The victory is for all of us, but especially for our daughters, for our youth, for our women.”

The mood in the nation is buoyant, yet marked with a sense of responsibility and urgency as Mahama prepares to take office. His leadership philosophy is poised to center on inclusivity and collective progress, promising a new chapter for Ghana as it navigates the challenges ahead.
