Two remarkable ceremonies took place at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, as the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, welcomed the newly enstooled Nkoranzahemaa, Oheneyere Yaa Sarpomaa III, and Tredehemaa, Nana Akua Adwubu Kete IV. This significant event occurred on Thursday, February 20, 2025, prior to the commencement of a Kumasi Traditional Council meeting.

Oheneyere Yaa Sarpomaa III, a 39-year-old banker, was introduced by the Paramount Chief of Nkoranza Traditional Council, Nana Kwame Baffoe IV. She succeeds her grandmother, Nana Adutwumwaa Dudaa Kani Mmrosa II, whose burial rites were performed two months prior. The Asantehene had previously met Yaa Sarpomaa years ago when her grandmother introduced her as the future heir to the Nkoranza stool.

Nana Nuben Sra III, Tredehene, took the opportunity to introduce his sister, Nana Akua Adwubu Kete IV, as the new Tredehemaa, in accordance with Asante customs and traditions. The eldest sister of the chief, she follows in the footsteps of her late mother, Nana Adwubi Kete III.

The introductions of these accomplished women to the Asantehene serve as a powerful testament to the Ashanti Kingdom’s commitment to gender inclusivity in leadership and its respect for tradition and customs. The occasion also demonstrated Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s dedication to upholding the Ashanti Kingdom’s values of unity, integrity, and progress.
