The Ahafo Ano South West District is one of the 260 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 43 MMDAs in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Located on the north-western part of the Region, the Ahafo Ano South West District is lies between latitude 6°42′ north and longitude 1°45’N and 2°20’W and the district capital is Mankranso.
The District was part of the former Ahafo Ano District Council and was created under Legislative Instrument (LI) 1401 which covers a total surface area of about 1190.7 km2, representing 4.9 percent of the region’s total surface area.
It is bounded to the north-east by Tano North Municipal of the Brong Ahafo Region, north-west by Ahafo Ano North Municipal, to the south by Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal, and to the east by the Offinso North District all in the Ashanti Region.
The population of the District in 2010, according to the 2010 Population and Housing Census, is 121,659. Males constitute 50.8 percent and females represent 49.2 percent.
