Fire ravages several shops at Buokrom in Kumasi

The timely intervention of a water bowser prevented a ravaging fire from further destroying properties at Buokrom B-Line park in the Ashanti Region.

Thousands of Ghana cedis have been lost to a raging fire this morning (10 December) at the Buokrom B-Line park in the Ashanti Region.

The fire, which started in a sawmill quickly spread to other shops, which are mainly wood working shops.

The incident which started around 7:20 am on Friday (10 December), saw residents helplessly trying to douse the fire. Their attempts were futile as the fire kept ravaging other close-by shops.

The timely intervention of a water bowser, driven by one Harruna Usman prevented the fire from spreading to more shops.

Usman says he had been tasked by the JOSHOB Construction Company “to water the road; they are constructing the road, but when the boys came to call me, I couldn’t say no. I can’t use the water to water the ground when people’s belongings are burning.”

Fire Service personnel arrived at a time when the residents, had, with the help of the water bowser, partly doused the fire.

ADO1 Eric Mensah, fire officer for the KNUST Fire Station who led the fire service personnel to the scene said, the fire tenders came as soon as they received the distress call.

“We had a call at 0757hours and we left the station at 0758hours and we were here 0812hours. Coming from Tech is not easy, maybe even the person who said he called was using a wrong number, we had traffic on our way, maybe some of them think we should fly or something, as soon as there is fire.”
