A tragic incident unfolded in Abuakwa Asonomaso, Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, Ashanti Region, where a 55-year-old woman named Joyce Boateng allegedly stabbed her 76-year-old mother, Afia Sarpomaah. The suspect claimed that a pastor had informed her that her mother was a witch responsible for her troubles.
This heartbreaking event took place on Sunday, June 16, 2024, as reported by local residents. The Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Isaac Adu Boateng, confirmed the incident, stating that he received a distress call and promptly arrived at the scene. Upon arrival, he discovered that the suspect had been apprehended by the police.
According to Hon. Adu Boateng, the suspect admitted to the crime and disclosed that a pastor had influenced her actions by labeling her mother as a witch. Following the stabbing, the suspect attempted to take her own life by consuming weedicide but was stopped and taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The body of the deceased has been transferred to Afari Hospital’s morgue, while the suspect remains in police custody and is receiving treatment at the hospital. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from misinformation and superstition.
