Dr. Rosemond Aboagye, CEO of Rand Medical Imaging and Health Systems, and a Senior Pediatric Radiologist at Ridge Hospital in Accra, has extended her extraordinary life story to the students of AME Zion Junior High School in Nyanyano, Kasoa. Dr. Aboagye’s visit to the school served as a powerful and inspiring moment for both the students and staff, as she shared her remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming a renowned medical professional in Ghana.
Growing up in the challenging environment of the slums in Korle Gonno, Accra, Dr. Aboagye faced numerous obstacles and hardships. As the eldest of five siblings, she took on the responsibility of supporting her family by selling kenkey. Despite discouragement from her immediate relatives, Dr. Aboagye remained determined to pursue her dream of studying medicine. She shared with the students how her passion for medicine was ignited by the unwavering belief in her abilities and the inspiration she found within herself to defy the odds.
During her university days, Dr. Aboagye recounted the struggles she faced, including going hungry and scavenging for leftover soap to bathe and wash her clothes. Despite these challenges, she persevered and excelled in her studies, eventually becoming an accomplished pediatric radiologist, serving as the only one of her kind in Ghana today.
She has pledged to build a library block for the school, recognizing the need for better learning resources for the students. Dr. Aboagye is calling on corporate bodies and individuals who have books or other learning materials to assist the students in realizing their full potential.
