Boete M/A Junior High School B in Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region has become an overnight Internet sensation with many social media users in awe at the creativity adopted during the school’s prefects election on Friday, November 12.
Pictures of the polls have dropped on social media platforms to indicate that students who have not participated in national elections got their first experience as the manner the prefects election was carried out is akin to a National elections.
The Students were made to wear aprons of Ghana’s Electoral commission and secret voting boots as well as transparent ballot boxes and indelible inks were used. What is unclear is whether the Electoral commission office in the Obuasi Municipality provided the materials or the school out of their quest to do something new produced theaterials themselves. It is even said all 14 candidates who vied for the various positions had polling agents who monitored the elections on their behalf.
Both teachers and students have however been praised for the novel manner the elections were held. Teachers have particularly been praised for their effort with some saying that the unique move will help the students understand Ghana’s electoral process. The results are out and winners have been announced but some Facebook users however hoped that losing candidates will not go to the Supreme Court for redress.
