The Nifa Division of the Kumasi Traditional Council mourns the passing of its chief, Nana Boakye Ansah Debra (1957-2025), and his queen, Nana Saman Diawuo (1949-2025). The announcement, made on March 18th, 2025, revealed that Nana Saman Diawuo passed away several days before her husband, the Asokore Mamponghene. Nana Boakye Yam Ababio, Nkwantakesehene, speaking at a press conference, confirmed the double loss, highlighting the profound impact of both leaders, describing Nana Ansah Debra’s legacy that transcended Asokore Mampong and extended into the wider Asanteman realm. His 38-year reign was marked by astute governance, a testament to his leadership and profound understanding of the complex realities of his role, further enhanced by his unique perspective as a trained architect.
Nana Saman Diawuo’s 52-year reign as queen, alongside her late husband, was equally pivotal in maintaining the rich tapestry of tradition and community cohesion within Asokore Mampong. Her quiet dignity and unwavering support for her husband were equally integral to the prosperity and stability of the region. The joint One-Week celebration, planned for April 10th, will serve as a testament to their collective contribution, uniting mourners in remembrance and celebrating the lives of these two influential figures whose contributions are deeply woven into the fabric of Asanteman. The unique pairing of their passing, so close in time, has given rise to both grief and an extraordinary opportunity for communal remembrance.
The upcoming ceremony promises to be a significant event, drawing mourners from across Ghana and beyond. The combined funeral, a testament to their intertwined lives and legacies, will underscore the enduring impact of their collective reign. The passing of the chief and queen marks a significant moment in the history of Asokore Mampong, leaving behind a legacy of leadership that will be remembered for generations. The planning committee invites all to join in honoring the memories of Nana Boakye Ansah Debra and Nana Saman Diawuo.
