Bakers in Kumasi have served notice that they will soon petition the Ministry of Trade over the surging prices of flour, sugar and other commodities in Ghana.
The bakers complained that the hikes in these commodities are affecting their businesses and expansion drive.
The traders have also hinted at plans to stage a massive demonstration in Kumasi in a few weeks against the government and local flour producers.
Executives of the Ashanti Bakers Association confirmed the duo, citing spiraling inflation caused by sporadic increases in the price of flour, margarine, sugar, and other ingredients used in bread production as putting an unsustainable strain on their business.
According to executives, the majority of bakers in the Ashanti region have gone out of business because they cannot afford the current production costs caused by what they have described as an insane increase.
