The Communication and Digitalization Minister has strongly indicated that the sim card re-registration will end on July 31.
Ursula Owusu has said government will in no way extend the deadline for the re-registration after it was extended to July 31.
Addressing a forum in Kumasi on Friday, July 22, she appealed to all persons who have yet to re-register their cards do so before the deadline.
“I, therefore, tell you to do so before the 31st of July,” she said.
But there is pressure on the Communications Minister to extend the deadline further considering the fact that a number of Ghanaians do not have access to the Ghana Card which is the only form of identification for the re-registration process.
A leading figure in the advocacy Sam Nartey George through Facebook has made this known that there will be a need for an extension because of the inability of the National Identification Authority to provide citizens with the Ghana Card.
Another advocate for the extension of the deadline, Kojo Akoto Boateng formerly of Citi FM also expressed similar concerns in a tweet.

Similar concerns have been expressed by a number of citizens in the country who are unable to have access to their Ghana card by no fault of theirs but because the National Identification Authority has not been able to print their cards.
It could be remembered that in March 2022, the Communications Ministry and the Government of Ghana extended the deadline for the sim card re-registration to July 31, 2022.
