Deputy Energy Minister-designate, Richard Gyan-Mensah, has refuted suggestions that the country is facing a return to “dumsor,” a term used to describe prolonged periods of nationwide power outages.
Addressing Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Mr. Gyan-Mensah acknowledged recent localized power interruptions but insisted that these incidents do not constitute a widespread energy crisis.
“I want to assure [the public] that ‘dumsor’ is not back,” he stated, drawing a distinction between the current situation and the previous era of scheduled blackouts. “What we see now… is not something that can be described as ‘dumsor.'”
Mr. Gyan-Mensah reassured citizens that the current outages are temporary and will decrease upon completion of maintenance work at various power plants. He reiterated the government’s commitment to preventing a recurrence of the severe power shortages previously experienced.
