Farmers at Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality of the Ashanti Region are complaining bitterly over the high increase in agrochemicals and fertilizer prices in the country.
According to the farmers, last year the prices of agrochemicals like weedicides were selling at Ghc12 as compared to this year which is now being sold at Ghc45.
According to the farmers, they are crying because of the high prices of agrochemicals, they are finding it difficult to farm this year as farming seasons have just begun.
According to the farmers, Ejura Sekyedumase is the food basket of Ghana, so they are pleading to the government of Ghana to intervene in the situation to help reduce the prices of agrochemicals and fertilizers for easy accessibility to enable them to farm this year.
Speaking to some of the input dealers in the Municipality, they confirmed that, the high prices of agrochemicals are not their fault but as a result of Ghana’s broken economy.
They, however, pleaded with the minister of food and agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto to support farmers most especially farmers in Ejura Sekyedumase.
They are worried the situation may bring about food shortage if nothing is done about it.
