Fuel Increase: Passengers express displeasure over “Trotro Drivers” short distance journey

Passengers in Kumasi have expressed their displeasure over the recent increase in fuel prices, which has prompted trotro drivers to resort to short distance tactics to maximize profits.

The commuters, who rely on trotros for their daily transportation needs, have noticed a concerning trend among drivers in the city. Instead of operating on their usual routes and dropping off passengers at their intended destinations, many drivers have been abruptly terminating their journeys midway, forcing passengers to disembark and find alternative means to reach their final destinations.

This tactic has left many passengers feeling frustrated and inconvenienced, especially during peak hours when alternative transportation options are limited. Some commuters have even reported being forced to pay additional fares to complete their journeys, adding insult to injury.

“I understand that fuel prices have gone up, but that does not justify the behavior of some of these drivers,” said one passenger, who requested anonymity. “It is unfair to us as passengers to be left stranded on the side of the road without warning or explanation.”

Passengers have called on trotro drivers to be more transparent about their routes and fares, and to provide better customer service despite the challenging economic conditions they may face.

In response to the complaints, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has urged trotro drivers to maintain a high level of professionalism and respect for their passengers, even as they navigate the challenges of rising fuel costs.

“We understand the difficulties that drivers are facing, but we must remember that passengers are the lifeblood of our business,” said a GPRTU representative. “It is important to treat them with the respect and courtesy they deserve, regardless of the economic pressures we may be experiencing.”

As fuel prices continue to fluctuate, passengers in Kumasi hope that trotro drivers will heed their concerns and improve their services to ensure a more pleasant and reliable transportation experience for all.
