Former Mayor of Tamale, Iddrisu Musah Superior who was “all over the place” running his mouth has polled 104 votes of the 5,556 votes at the just ended Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party in Accra.
Mr. Superior only made 1.8% of the valid votes cast placing him third behind incumbent John Boadu with whom he had a rocky banter ahead of the elections.
Mr. Superior had vowed to unseat John Boadu but his votes had no impact on the election as the winner would have won hands down even with all the other votes given to John Boadu.
Legal practitioner, Justin Kodua won the election by polling 2,857 votes to beat Mr. John Boadu who obtained 2,524 votes out of the total 5,556 votes cast.
While Iddrisu Musah Superior lost woefully, he has consolation in the fact that John Boadu lost which was what he pushed for. Also, Mr. Superior defeated 3 other aspirants including former Suhum MP Frederick Opare Ansah who polled 50 votes, Ramseyer Ahmed with 8 votes and Charles Bissue who withdrew from the race buy still managed 12 votes.
The defeat of Musah Superior was apparent after his own Northern Regional Chairman Mohammed Baatima Samba before the election disclosed the decision of the Regional Executives of the party to endorse the re-election bid of imcumbent NPP General Secretary, John Boadu.
The move was regarded by many observers as a betrayal of the Former Tamale Mayor vying for the same position.
Coming from the Northern Region, many believed that the Former Mayor who has served the party in various capacities in the Northern Region would have had 100 percent support from the newly elected regional executives of the ruling party.
But party members said Superior as Tamale Mayor was arrogant and unhelpful to them hence their decision to not back his bid. While he lost in the latest contest, his defeat was not surprising or shocking.
