The Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched a harmonised prospectus for Senior High and Technical Schools, designed to standardise requirements for first-year students nationwide. Titled the “National Prospectus,” this document establishes uniform standards, eliminating additional items previously required by some schools.
Parents will enjoy a streamlined shopping experience, as they can purchase necessary items before the Computerised School Selection and Placement process begins. The prospectus categorises items into three groups, detailing essential needs and cleaning supplies to alleviate pressure on families.
Category ‘A’ lists 27 essentials, including suitcases, toiletries, beddings, and educational tools. Category ‘B’ outlines cleaning materials in three groups, with specific items required for students. Day students are also provided with a distinct list of basic needs.
Dr. Eric Nkansah, GES Director-General, explained that the grouping originates from prior experiences that highlighted the need for simplified cleaning materials. He urged parents to purchase all required items, apart from cleaning supplies, ahead of student categorisation.
Dr. Nkansah reassured parents of a smooth placement process and emphasized the importance of the prospectus in hastening enrolment, while warning against any unlawful demands for placement fees. He confirmed that there are sufficient vacancies for all qualified candidates.
