The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is set to launch the “Visit Your Tree” campaign on December 11, 2021 to encourage Ghanaians to visit and assess the growth of their seedlings.
The event will mark exactly six months since this year’s Green Ghana Project was carried out and also set the stage for the launch of the Green Ghana Project 2022, targeted at planting 20 million seedlings across the country.
Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in charge of Forestry, during a media engagement on Friday, said the Campaign would whip up greater enthusiasm amongst citizens ahead of next year’s tree planting exercise, after they got to witness for themselves how well their trees had been nurtured thus far.
“The visit will stir up excitement and let them better appreciate the planting exercise. It will also ignite a sense of responsibility on their part to care for their trees. It will be a time to remind them of how the Project is progressing and let them know whether the target was achieved and our plans for 2022.
“We will allow each person, including school children, to take a selfie beside his or her plant and post it on various social media platforms. We will also capture it in our database. The President himself and other top officials in Ghana will participate in this activity,” he said.
He noted that a committee had already been set up regarding the Green Ghana Project 2022 and would start working right after the launch on December 11.
The Deputy Minister urged the media fraternity to partner with Ministry by making their various platforms available for discussions and publications on the Project, all geared towards arousing excitement ahead of the occasion.
