IMF’s Carlo Sdralevich leads team to Ghana to begin negotiations

  • Post category:Business

Economist Carlo Sdralevich of International Monetary Fund (IMF) is leading the IMF team to Ghana as the country seeks an IMF programme to help deal with its balance of payment challenges.

The team will be in Accra from July 6, to July 13, 2022 as it seeks to agree with managers of the Ghanaian economy on what programme will best respond to Ghana’s ailing economy.

Dr Sdralevich is a much experienced Monetary Economist who has been with the IMF for more than two decades. He has led missions to some other countries that sought help from the IMF.

“On the basis of a request from the Ghanaian authorities, an IMF staff team will in the coming days kick-start discussions on a possible program to support Ghana’s homegrown economic policies. We are at an early stage in the process, given that detailed discussions are yet to take place…

The IMF stands ready to assist Ghana to restore macroeconomic stability, safeguard debt sustainability, and promote inclusive and sustainable growth, and address the impact of the war in Ukraine and the lingering pandemic,” Dr Sdralevich said about the visit to Ghana.

On July 1, 2022, President Akufo-Addo authorized the Finance Minister to engage the IMF for an economic programme to help the struggling economy recover.
