“It is written, ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, from now on, yes, says the Spirit, they shall rest from their labors, for their deeds will follow them.’” – Revelation 14:13.
Obaapaninn Adwoa Kyaifi, a beloved figure from the Ashanti Region, was born on July 17, 1936, in Bamang. She was the daughter of Opanin Kwaku Appaigyei from the Bretuo family and Obaapanin Akua Tiwaah of the Asenie family, both of blessed memory. Adwoa was the sixth of seven children in her family.
Despite lacking formal education, Adwoa demonstrated resilience and tenacity from a young age. During her teenage years, she lived with her stepmother in Akomadan, where she eventually met Opanin Akwasi Mensah, a mechanic. They married and were blessed with seven children, six of whom are still living. The family initially resided at Akwatia Line in Kuamsi .
Tragically, Adwoa lost her husband unexpectedly in 1971, leaving her to raise her young children alone. Demonstrating remarkable strength and determination, she moved the family to Fante New Town and became an itinerant trader. Adwoa traversed between Kumasi and Sampa, buying and selling goods to support her family.
In 2006, she received invitations to visit her family in the United States, followed by another trip to Canada in 2008. Throughout her life, Adwoa was a devoted Christian and a longstanding member of the Church of Christ, where she served her community with humility and respect.
In her later years, Adwoa faced health challenges that led to a decline in her strength. Her children did everything within their power to care for their beloved mother during her illness. In the words of the Akan proverb, “OWUO KURA ADEƐ A, NKWA NTUMI NGYE,” she fought valiantly, completed her life’s race, and upheld her faith.
Adwoapanin Adwoa Kyaifi’s family finds comfort in the belief that her journey continues under the guidance of God. They affirm that she is not alone, for Christ is with her. Her legacy of hard work, dedication, and faith will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
