The Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah says he has no regrets for angrily sacking caterers of the School Feeding Programme who went to his office to petition him over unpaid money.
He also insists that it would not be under his watch lawlessness would be pampered once it is at variance with the provisions enshrined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
On Monday, April 3, the Regional Minister reacted angrily to caterers under the government’s school feeding programme at the Regional Coordinating Council when they visited his office to present a petition.
The caterers were there to call on the government to pay them their arrears and also consider increasing the amount for feeding each student.
According to the caterers, the government owes them three academic terms but has paid only one
Speaking on Kumasi-based radio Hello FM, the regional minister intimated that he was not a vulnerable politician and he will work with the law until Akufo-Addo sacks him from his position or till he leaves office. “Under my regime, we are practicing democracy and the foundation is rule of law. I’m telling you today. I haven’t regretted doing that a bit”, he added.
He also noted that he had to stop the regional liaison officer from inviting the police to the ground at a point and stressed that he was not going to tolerate that on any day.
“I will not tolerate that today; I will not tolerate that tomorrow”. I’ve not regretted doing this and if they come again in that form, I’ll do my worse”, he promised.
