The Sekyere South District (formerly Afigya Sekyere District) is one of the 260 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 43 of MMDAs in the Ashanti Region and has its administrative capital as Agona.
The Sekyere South District (formerly Afigya Sekyere District) is located in the north eastern part of the Ashanti Region is 37 kilometers from Kumasi, along the Kumasi – Mampong trunk road.
The District has a total land area of 416.8 square kilometers representing about 1.7 percent of the total land size of the Region of 24,389 square kilometers. The District lies between latitude 6o 50’N and 70 10’N and Longitude 10 40’W and 10 25’ W.
The District shares common borders with Ejura Sekyedumase Municipal to the north, Mampong Municipal and Sekyere East District to the east, Kwabre East Municipal to the south and Offinso Municipality to the west.
The population of the District according to the 2010 Population and Housing Census stands at 94,009 with 44,691 male 49,318 female.
