  • Post category:National

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng has indicated that the case against Mahama Ayariga is a waste of the state’s time. Thus likely to suffer like similar cases in the past.

The above statement was made by the Special Prosecutor on Monday, October 11, 2021, after the court proceeding.

The Special Prosecutor made his first appearance in court today since he was sworn into the position about two months ago.

Mr Agyebeng was exepcted to prosecute the tax evasion case involving the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga.

This case was started by the former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu.

Mr.Ayariga and six others had been charged by Mr. Amidu for breaching procurement processes in the purchase of some ambulances for his constituency and tax evasion in the importation of some vehicles.

They were however acquitted and discharged on Friday, May, 7 by an Accra High Court presided over by Justice Afia Serwaah relative to the procurement breaches but the tax evasion case remained outstanding which trial resumed today, October 11, 2021.

“It will be a complete waste of time if we were to open this case further and go to a length where it will only be dismissed,” he said today when he spoke to journalists in court.
