Political Scientist and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Richard Amoako Baah is urging the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo tame himself and not respond callously to every criticism or feedback.
The advice comes on the heels of criticisms directed at the president over his commentary and reaction to electorates of Kwabre East Constituency in the Ashani Region , who have threatened not to vote for the NPP in the 2024 elections.
The President in a response said he is unfazed with such threats as he cannot force the thumb of anyone , if that individual wanted to vote for the NDC.
His response has been met with wide condemnation.
The latest to wade into criticism is Dr. Amoako Baah while speaking on Kumasi urban radio Ultimate 106.9 FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com
“The President’s pronouncements are not entirely wrong but in-appropriate. You are president because people made you president, so when the same people get upset, it does not mean you should tackle them and have exchanges with them and get angry, no” he said.
“It is their country; it’s not your money that you are using to do things for them.”
“It’s their country, the money you are going to use to fix whatever it is for them is their money, not yours and so you shouldn’t get upset.”
“Yes, sometimes it’s irritating when the people say they won’t vote for you, etc but that is how Ghana is. A good politician will take his time, it’s not everything that you hear, that you have to respond to and this is one of them”.
Mr. Amoako Baah however notes that, what is transpiring now with unguarded responses to people by the president is his true nature and character.
“It’s his first nature, he easily gets upset, if you become a politician, especially the president you should tame yourself, you don’t speak freely like you are having a chat with a friend, because as president everything you say is news, everything you say is recorded. What he came to do is to fix things, but now we are talking about your anger, why? He questioned
“You said you will fix it, but now we are all talking about your anger and how you said it, how. Those coming to explain, telling us what the President said are failing at doing damage control. The president should not allow inexperience hands at his side, coming to defend defend defend, what we heard you are saying we didn’t hear, I mean how”, he wondered.
