In a shocking display of hostility, multiple individuals including a child sustained injuries Monday evening when a group of alleged youths from Techiman launched an unprovoked attack on buses returning from Nkoranza to Kumasi. The buses were transporting attendees of a funeral attended by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll.
Reports indicate that prior to the funeral, Techiman youths had issued threats against anyone traveling the route through their territory, stemming from a previous incident involving the Asanteman convoy. This convoy had reportedly obstructed the highway at Amamfom while chanting provocatively, “There is no man in Techiman,” which seemingly escalated hostilities.
In reaction to this perceived affront, the Techiman youth retaliated by attacking the buses, an act that speaks volumes about their disregard for community safety and civil conduct. The violent confrontation left several individuals injured, with victims promptly receiving medical attention.
As it stands, the police have yet to issue a comment on the incident, while tensions between the two communities continue to simmer, raising concerns about the potential for further conflict. It is crucial that both local leaders and community members address the underlying issues and work towards fostering a spirit of unity rather than division in the face of these provocations.
