Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, has launched the African Traditional Leadership Institute (ATLI), a pioneering initiative aimed at uniting and developing traditional leadership across the continent. Announced during the third summit of Ewe Traditional Rulers at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, the institute is envisioned as a dynamic platform for fostering collaboration among chiefs and promoting African cultural heritage.
Under the leadership of Dr. John Afele, an esteemed international consultant, ATLI has quickly organized a five-member executive committee, with Togbe Afede stepping into the role of its inaugural President. The institute is supported by significant funding, including a one million cedi guarantee from Strategic African Securities and an initial investment of USD 20,000 from Togbe Afede himself. Located at the World Trade Center in Accra, ATLI is set to become a vital center for research, learning, and community engagement.
Dr. Afele emphasized the importance of the institute in revitalizing local governance and enhancing the involvement of chiefs in regional development, predicting it will become the largest representation of traditional leadership. Togbe Afede highlighted the collaborative spirit necessary for the endeavor, recognizing the supportive role of diverse stakeholders, including embassies and diplomatic missions.
This initiative showcases Togbe Afede’s commitment to empowering traditional leaders and mobilizing grassroots participation in broader developmental agendas, thus marking a significant step towards the establishment of a united African traditional leadership union.
